The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
